Why Do We Celebrate Independence Day

"Ibon mang may layang lumipad kulongin mo at umiiyak" a line of a Filipino song that is about Filipinos crying for help, crying because of the violent foreign invaders that are making the Filipinos suffer for hundreds of years. But then the day came and Filipinos broke their silence and fought for their freedom and that freedom is what we are enjoying and celebrating until now.

It was June 12, 1898 when General Emilio Aguinaldo wave the flag that signify the independence of the Philippines at the balcony of his house in Kawit, Cavite and all of the Filipinos are very happy that time because they are free from the invaders and can live peacefully. Now some people are happy about the celebration of the Independence Day because it is a non-working holiday. But the true reason why we celebrate this is to give tribute to the brave men who have shown their bravery and love to the Filipino People and specially to the motherland, Philippines. They defeated the enemies and be able to defend our land with the use of machete and it is not easy to win a battle using only your bare hands so they deserve a big salute and respect. That is the only thing that we can give them back.

And now as a Filipino or Mamamayan ng bansang Pilipinas is proud on the brave heroes who fought for our freedom and Independence that they have fulfill their goal, the last part of the song "Aking adhika makita kang sakdak laya".
